11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	ESCWA contributes to SHARAKA Conference	Upon invitation from the Gulf Studies Program at the College of Arts and Science, Qatar University, ESCWA Regional Advisor on Environment and Water, Ralf Klingbeil, participated in the conference “EU-GCC Regional Security Cooperation - Lessons Learned and Future Challenges” organised by the EU-funded SHARAKA project for “Enhancing Understanding and Cooperation in EU-GCC Relations” between 28 and 29 October 2013 in Doha, Qatar. The conference addressed a number of security-related issues relevant to EU-GCC relations including energy and food security.
11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	E-Seminar on Integrating Social Justice into National Reforms Plans ongoing until 15 August	Over the past few years, many Arab countries have witnessed popular uprisings in which ordinary men and women have demanded freedom, social justice and dignity. Political transitions as a result of these uprisings have brought to the fore a number of short term challenges that will have a decisive impact on the long term prospects of these countries and the region as a whole.
11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	Arab Countries Discuss Industrial Statistics and Classifications	The Qatari capital, Doha, hosted on 30 September - 2 October 2013 a regional workshop on industrial statistics and classifications for the Arab countries. The workshop was jointly organized with the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the New York-based United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO).
11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	Capacity Development for Climate Change Negotiations for the Arab Countries	Upon a request for support through Technical Cooperation from the League of Arab States (LAS), ESCWA jointly with the LAS conducted between 22 and 24 October 2013 a regional training workshop on “Capacity Development for Climate Change Negotiations for the Arab Countries” in Amman, Jordan. The workshop was hosted by the ESCWA Technology Centre at the facilities of the Jordanian Royal Scientific Society and attended by 16 participants from nine Member States.

11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	Regional Profile of the Information Society: the Arabic language sixth among the most used languages on the Internet	The Internet penetration rate in the Arab region registered a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.9 per cent during the period 2005-2012 which is higher than the world average of 12.4 per cent. The forte of ICT infrastructure in the region are dynamic mobile service markets which saw a notable penetration rate CAGR of 21.4 per cent between 2005 and 2012, higher than the global rate at 15.2 per cent. Additionally, as of mid 2013, all Arab countries except three had deployed 3G services.
11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	مسابقات المحتوى الرقمي العربي لعام 2013 توسع الآفاق للتطبيقات الرقمية بالعربية	أطلقت الإسكوا مسابقات المحتوى الرقمي العربي للعام 2013 ما بين شهري حزيران وأيلول تحت شعار تفكر رقمياً؟ ابتكر عربياً! وذلك في كل من فلسطين واليمن ولبنان بهدف انتقاء أفضل الأفكار وأكثرها إبداعاً في مجال المحتوى الرقمي العربي. وقد تم إطلاق المسابقات بالتعاون مع الحاضنة الفلسطينية لتكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات (بيكتي) في فلسطين ومركز العلوم والتكنولوجيا في جامعة عدن في اليمن وبيريتك في لبنان. واستهدفت المسابقة خريجي الجامعات والشباب من رواد الأعمال الطامحين للعمل في مجال تطوير تطبيقات للمحتوى الرقمي العربي وإنشاء شركات متخصصة في هذه الصناعة.
