The Workshops on City Census Data Analysis and Remote Sensing City Analysis is jointly organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), and will be held in Beirut, Lebanon, from 27 September-01 October 2010.

The main objective of the Workshop is to pursue and deepen the analysis of inequalities and social and economic outcomes at city level using census data. In addition to the production of comparative wealth indicators, the Workshop will help refine the estimation of urban inequalities, in particular the shelter dimension, and assess the need for cooperation between statistical offices and data users.

Population and housing censuses provide valuable data for the whole population. They are, however, not fully utilized in primary and secondary data analysis. While DHS, MICS and LSMS are other sources for data analysis, estimates from them are usually not available at district level. Census data enable policy analysis for lower level of geography and interventions targeting poor areas
