A Training Workshop on "Estimation of National Accounts at Constant Prices - at National and Regional levels" would be conducted jointly by the Programme Planning and Technical Cooperation Division and Statistics Division of ESCWA for the official statisticians of the Central Organization of Statistics and Information Technology (COSIT), Iraq. This workshop has been planned at the request of COSIT.

The workshop is designed to help the officials of COSIT in reviewing and improving methods of compiling national accounts at constant prices, particularly under the hyperinflationary condition Iraq is now passing through. It should also help identify the best feasible methods of estimating "real" growth rates of production, consumption and investment in the Iraqi economy income, as well as estimating "real" rate of growth of national income. Alongside, a framework for compiling production-side aggregates at the regional level would also be developed in the workshop.

Enhanced skills of participants, to produce reasonably reliable estimates of national accounts at constant prices and estimating "real" rate of growth of national income and other macro-economic aggregates. This is indeed a challenging task for the official statisticians of Iraq, particularly under the present circumstances.
