The Capacity-building Workshop on Information Society Measurement: Core Indicators, Statistics, and Data Collection (Beirut, 7-10 June 2005) was organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Arab Regional Office and the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS). The Workshop was the first on building the capacity for statistical measurement of the information society in Western Asia and the Arab region. |

First Arab States Regional South-South Development EXPO |
The first Arab States Regional South-South Development Expo was held on 18 to 20 February 2014, hosted by the State of Qatar and co-organized by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation and the United Nations Development Programme Regional Bureau for Arab States. The Expo bore the motto “Solutions to Action”. The main objective of the Expo was to serve as a platform for matching capacities of the solution providers with the needs of the solution seekers, which will potentially lead to practical exchanges of South-South solutions and experiences in the region. |

Impact of COVID-19 on Migrants and Refugees in the Arab Region |
This publication examines the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on migrants and refugees in the Arab region. It focuses on several relevant areas including health, income security, the economy and education. It also addresses return and voluntary repatriation, and trafficking in persons during the pandemic. The paper and its accompanying policy brief present a set of actionable short- and medium-term policy recommendations to guide countries’ responses to these issues.
