Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)” project, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the General Commission for Regional Development (CGDR) and the National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) in Tunisia, is organizing a capacity-building workshop of rural women on cattle breeding.
 
This workshop aims to enable rural women in Chorbane, Governorate of Mahdia, Tunisia to acquire skills in the field of cattle breeding, especially the basic principles of feeding and improving production. The workshop will also enable building and strengthening the theoretical and practical capacities of a group of rural women in the field of forage agriculture which can be locally produced in order to achieve an important nutritional balance for the herd.

 Government representatives and officials from the National Women Machineries (NWMs) in the Member States of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) today adopted a unified Arab framework to measure accountability and progress towards achieving gender equality in public institutions. The framework will be tested later at the levels of both the NWMs and governmental institutions.

The eleventh session of the Committee on Social Development will tackle selected regional issues, namely the New Urban Agenda, age structural transitions, and intergenerational justice.

Within the framework of her visit to the Kingdom of Morocco to participate in the Second High-Level Meeting on Transition to Democracy organized by ESCWA in the City of Rabat on 5-6 February 2013, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf met yesterday, Monday, Moroccan Minister Delegate for Public Affairs and Governance Mohammad Boulif. The visit intended to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between Morocco and ESCWA.
