Event Type:

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is working on a “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)”, which is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). REGEND aims to improve the livelihood, economic benefits, social inclusion and gender equality of Arab rural communities particularly marginalized groups, by addressing energy access, water scarcity and vulnerability, climate change and other natural resources challenges in three targeted countries, Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia.

In this context, ESCWA is organizing a capacity-building workshop of rural women on cattle breeding, in partnership with the General Commission for Regional Development (CGDR) and the National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) in Tunisia, to enable rural women in Chorbane, Governorate of Mahdia, Tunisia to acquire skills in the field of cattle breeding, especially the basic principles of feeding and improving production. The workshop will also enable building and strengthening the theoretical and practical capacities of a group of rural women in the field of forage agriculture which can be locally produced in order to achieve an important nutritional balance for the herd.

The workshop will be based on modern methods of training, where alternation will occur between the theoretical and the applied dimension while adopting a participatory approach to facilitate the exchange of opinions and field experiences and draw on the experiences of rural women among each other, which will allow them to master the content of the workshop and thus apply it smoothly in the context of their daily work.
