League of Arab States to Host 21st Meeting of the UN Regional Coordination Mechanism |
United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Rima Khalaf; UN Assistant Secretary-General, and Chair of the UN Development Group for the Arab Region Sima Bahous; and Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Nabil Elaraby will open the 21st Meeting of the UN Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM) on the 25th of November, 2015 at 10.00am, at the League’s Cairo based headquarters. |

Capacity Building Workshop on the Integration of Renewable Energy Resources in the Transmission and Distribution Networks in the Arab Region |
The main objective of the workshop is to develop the technical capacity of Ministries and Utilities of Electricity to integrate renewable energy in electrical transmission and distribution networks in the Arab region. It is organized by ESCWA in cooperation with the Arab Union of Electricity (AUE) and the National Electric Power Company in Jordan (NEPCO). |

The Third Session of the Arab Forum for Scientific Research and Sustainable Development was held from 10 to 12 December 2015, Beirut, Lebanon. The Forum was organized by the Arab League Education, Culture and Science Organization (ALECSO) in collaboration with Hariri Foundation, ESCWA, General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture for Arab Countries, Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO, and Maghreb Institute for Research and Strategic Studies. Working Groups |
RICCAR implementation is supported by two working groups and two task forces comprised of representatives from Arab Governments, Arab regional organizations, United Nations organizations serving the Arab region and international experts. The two working groups are technically and financially supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH under the project Adaptation to Climate Change in the Water Sector in the MENA Region (ACCWaM), which supports RICCAR. |

The Committee on Women of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) was established pursuant to resolution 240 (XXII) of 17 April 2003, which was endorsed by Economic and Social Council resolution 2003/9 of 18 July 2004. It was mandated to follow up on global and regional conferences addressing women’s advancement and facilitate the participation of member States in related global discussions. It was also tasked with the coordination of regional efforts towards the implementation of its resolutions and recommendations. |
