Internet Governance: Challenges and Opportunities for the ESCWA Member Countries |
One year before the conclusion of the global Internet Governance Forum (IGF) (2006-2010), and shortly before the expiration of one of the most important and contentious global agreements shaping the current global Internet governance structure, namely the Joint Project Agreement (JPA) between the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the United States Department of Commerce, ESCWA published this study to support the Arab region in its efforts to develop a regional framework for Internet governance. |

While ESCWA member countries face a number of obstacles to increasing regional trade, a consensus exists among policymakers that the economic integration in the region is crucial both to promote economic growth and development and to overcome the challenges of globalization. This study identifies the various trade policies adopted by ESCWA member countries and assesses their impact on economic performance, in particular their contribution to improving trade and development in the region. |
