ESCWA Annual Report 2014 |
As the United Nations enters its seventieth year, the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) embarks on its fifth decade of work in the Arab region. Our role at ESCWA, however challenging in these tragic times, is to keep the long-term goals of development, integration and social justice alive and to create a prosperous and just future for all. The region has been shaken to the core. The casualty toll continues to mount and millions have been displaced and exiled. |

Informing the SDGs through the Arab MDG+ Initiative |
ESCWA is convening a session on “Informing the SDGs through the Arab MDG+ Initiative” as part of the MENA Focus days organized within the World Water Week by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and taking place from 28 August to 2 September 2016 in Stockholm. The event is planned for Wednesday August 31st in collaboration with the Arab Countries Water Utilities Association (ACWUA), the League of Arab States (LAS) and with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The MENA Focus days event is dedicated to water and sustainable growth in the Middle East and North Africa, aiming to enhance experience and knowledge sharing as well as to promote MENA priority issues in the global water agenda. |

Beirut, 22 September (Communication and Information Unit)—A crowd of ministers, high-level dignitaries and governmental and non-governmental experts will gather in Beirut next week to participate in the “High-Level Conference on Climate Impact Assessment and Adaptation in the Arab Region”, which ESCWA is co-organizing with 11 institutions under the auspices of Lebanese President of the Council of Ministers Saad Hariri, from 26 to 28 September at the Hilton Sin El Fil Hotel. |

Sustainable Development Goal Simulation |
In March 2017, ESCWA issued a report on a “Prototype model for Sustainable Development Goal simulation”. The paper analyzes efforts to create a quantitative model that can arbitrate and balance between opposing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in order to reach the best combination of targets. |

AIGF2020 Initiative: 2016-2017 |
In Dec 2015, the Fourth Arab IGF concluded the first mandate of the Arab IGF process (2012-2015) and resulted in the launching by ESCWA and LAS of the AIGF2020 initiative that aims to analyse and develop the Arab IGF process in its second mandate that could extend until 2020 or 2025. |

2nd Interagency and Expert Group Meeting on Gender Statistics in Arab Countries |
The 2nd IAEG and Experts Meeting on Gender Statistics will focus on discussing proposals for methodology to measure the indicators in the Arab "G Is In" Framework; agree on compiling data towards testing the methodologies and identify data availability. In addition, the meeting will provide opportunity to exchange information on current challenges and best practices.
