Poverty in Tripoli |
On 10 January 2015, ESCWA launched its study on Poverty in Tripoli from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the city. The study was prepared in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and under the supervision of the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs. The Commission gathered on 12 January in its Beirut headquarters a host of experts and diplomats to discuss the conclusions of the study. |

Regional Commission Honors Arab Women Voices |
On the occasion of International Women's Day, ESCWA honored Arab women voices: singer and poet Jaheda Wehbe, Palestinian-American poet and scholar Lisa Suhair Majaj and Palestinian-Lebanese filmmaker Carole Mansour. Held in cooperation with the Resource Center for Gender Equality (ABAAD) and under the title "Voices of Arab Women," on 5 March 2015 at the UN House, Beirut, the ceremony saw the participation of Second Vice Chair of the National Commission for Lebanese Women Lama Tammam Salam, and Lebanese Minister of Displaced Persons Alice Chabtini. |

Statistical Indicator and Data Dissemination in Western Asia Countries |
Upon the request of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) in Khartoum, the International Comparison Program (ICP) Regional Office for Western Asia (WA) region at ESCWA organized a workshop on “Statistical Indicator and Data Dissemination in Western Asia Countries,” on 17 and 18 February 2015, under the patronage of State Minister Jamal Ibrahim Mahmoud. The workshop was chaired by Head of CBS Yassin Al-Haj Abdin. The workshop aimed at raising awareness on the importance of the ICP and its results. |

From 22 to 27 March 2015, the Jordanian capital, Amman, hosted governmental meetings organized by ESCWA. These events, which were attended by high-level figures and experts in the areas of energy, water and food security, included the 10th session of the ESCWA Committee on Energy, an expert group meeting on the Water-Energy-Food Security Nexus in the Arab Region, and the 11th session of the ESCWA Committee on Water Resources. International Conference on Financing Sustainable Development, Alexandria, Egypt |
ESCWA, and in partnership with the Arab Academy for Science Technology & Maritime Transport, organized an International Conference on Financing Sustainable Development in the Arab Region in Alexandria, Egypt during the period 17-18 December 2014. The conference focused mainly on tax efficiency, workers’ remittances and innovative sources of finance. The meeting was attended by a large number of participants from different countries and agencies interested in the topics of discussion in addition to the presence of 2 ministers from Egypt and the head of the Academy. |
