Achieving Social Justice in the Arab Region |
During the ESCWA 29th Session held on 13-15 December 2016, ESCWA presented the guide that it is currently preparing to incorporate social justice principles into development plans in Arab countries. The guide aims to inform officials in charge of the formulation of policies and plans in Member States on how to integrate the social justice concepts and principles in their national development policies and plans and to explain the link between social justice and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and of relevant international conventions. |

Boosting Digital Arabic Content – new report examines challenges and opportunities |
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA) launched on June 13th 2014 a joint assessment study entitled "Digital Arabic Content". The launch was during the thematic workshop on "Digital Content for Inclusive Knowledge Society" that took place as part of the WSIS+10 High Level Event, held in Geneva. The report was launched amidst growing regional interest in digital content in general and digital Arabic content (DAC) in specific. |

Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees in Iraq and the Requirements of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 |
Refugees and internally displaced persons are still ongoing crises in Iraq and in many countries in the Arab region, not only as a result to the armed conflicts, but also as economic and social challenges. These crises are burdening the affected Arab governments and societies from finding comprehensive solutions. The challenges and threats of the refugees’ crisis exceed the national levels, currently it is one of the most fundamental humanitarian crises at the international level. It grabbed the attention of most of the International organizations and governments, working together to draft resolutions and policies to subside this influx and its dimensions. Furthermore, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and mainly in the Goal 16, is considered among the most emphasized plans dealing with issues of refugees, immigrants, and internally displaced persons. |
