Combating domestic violence against women and girls: Policies to empower women in the Arab region |
This policy brief addresses domestic violence in the Arab region, within the context of family, and is based on a recent flagship study, jointly prepared by ESCWA and UN-WOMEN, in addition to support from the Norwegian Embassy in Beirut. It seeks to present, for the first time, evidence-based policy recommendations addressed primarily, to 18 Arab countries in order to strengthen their resolution towards ending violence against women and girls, particularly in the domestic sphere. |

Drafting Bilateral Investment Treaties |
ESCWA organized a national workshop on drafting of bilateral investment agreements during the period 11-15 March 2013 in Beirut, Lebanon. The purpose of this workshop was to familiarize participants from various government agencies and institutions that play a role in the negotiation of bilateral investment agreements, on how to draft various items contained in the bilateral investment agreements, drafting techniques of treaties, and understand the basic concepts in the formulation of international conventions relating to investment. |

Kazakhstan’s aggregate total installed capacity of all power stations for electricity production shows a dominant contribution of coal-fired power stations in the energy mix. However, there is a strong decision at the highest political level to move towards higher contribution of renewable energy sources in the energy mix. |
