UNSD/ESCWA Technical Assistance to Lebanon on Improving Energy Statistics for Sustainable Development |
The objective of this assessment mission is to assist the General Directorate of Oil at the Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW) and the Central Administration of Statistics (CAS) in producing a step-by-step plan towards meeting Lebanon’s energy statistics needs. For this purpose, other government stakeholders’ views need to be considered so that the collective national policy needs in this area are incorporated in the plan. Cooperation and coordination among agencies will be essential to improve Lebanon’s energy statistics in a cost-efficient way. |

Brainstorming session on rehabilitating the Iraqi construction sector |
With the participation of 18 contributors from Lebanon, Iraq and the region, the objective of the session was to formulate a strategy to enhance the active involvement of the domestic construction industry of Iraq in the reconstruction and maintenance of Iraq''s physical make-up. Based on the deliberations, a project proposal for UNDG was prepared by UNESCWA that combined both theoretical views with realistic aspects presented by the Iraqi participating experts. |

International Migration Statistics: Meeting the International Recommendations - ESCWA Training Kit |
The kit aims to provide the information necessary to develop and improve statistical systems for migration statistics with regard to the quality, coverage, collection and use of migration data. Where possible, it identifies some of the common pitfalls to avoid in this field and provides, in the annex, model tables developed by the United Nations for the collection of comparable migration data. It also aims to encourage the use of hitherto under-exploited administrative sources of migration data, in addition to censuses and surveys.
