Saudi Arabia – ESCWA to Boost Cooperation |
Capacity-building in integrated social policies, tackling poverty and strengthening social institutions were some of the issues discussed on 21 May at ESCWA, when the Regional Commission received Saudi Social Affairs Minister, Youssef bin Ahmad Al Otheymeen and the newly appointed Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon, Ali bin Saeed Awwad Oussairi and officials of the Embassy. |

ESCWA and BGR Discuss Water Cooperation |
ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader Omar AlDafa discussed today the issue of water resources in the region with Wilhelm Struckmeier, head of the groundwater department at the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR). Technical cooperation between ESCWA and BGR dates back to 1992, and both parties work together with the overall objective to enhance the cross-country collaboration in the ESCWA region in the area of water.

ESCWA Meeting Calls for Efforts to Establish Arab Information Society |
ESCWA opened yesterday its regional meeting on the Follow-up to the Outcome of the World Summit on the Information Society in Damascus, with keynote speakers stressing the importance of building and strengthening the information society in the Arab region, to further push the development process. "Establishing the information society in our region requires the combination of efforts by the governments and the private sector, including regional training and research organizations", ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader AlDafa said. |
