ESCWA and The Sudan Discuss Cooperation

Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs of the Sudan Mutrif Siddiq visited ESCWA Headquarters where he met with Executive Secretary Bader AlDafa. Also attending the meeting were Charge d'Affaires at the Embassy of Sudan in Lebanon, Al Hadi Siddiq Ali Numeiri and Secretary of the Regional Commission. Discussions extended to the official visit AlDafa is set to pay the Sudan in the coming period, where he is expected to hold talks with Sudanese officials on bilateral issues.

 



The Sudanese officials were briefed on the work of the Commission and its activities in member countries. Technical cooperation was also a subject of discussion, as well as the services that ESCWA could render to the Sudan in this area such as dispatching consultants and specialists to meet with technical officers in Sudanese ministries.

 

Siddiq expressed his appreciation for efforts exerted by ESCWA and its Executive Secretary, and their openness to all member countries. He also welcomed its work and endeavor in the Sudan.

 

The Sudan recently joined ESCWA, which now comprises 14 member countries: Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the Sudan, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Its objective is to support economic and social cooperation among the countries of the region and promote the development process in order to achieve regional integration.
