Star Academy 2006 at UNESCWA |
UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy said the Arab youth are facing tremendous political, security, economic and social challenges that are driving them abroad in search for a better future. Tallawy was speaking to the contestants of Star Academy 2006 who visited the UN House ahead of a music concert they will be holding at 8:00pm Tuesday at the UNESCO Palace, Beirut, as part of the cultural events organized on the sidelines of the UNESCWA 24th Ministerial Session in Beirut from 8 to 11 May 2006. |

Ambassador of Egypt Visits ESCWA, Meets Executive Secretary |
UN Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim received the Ambassador of Egypt to Lebanon Nazih El Naggary, on 26 May 2017 at the UN House, Beirut. Following the meeting, Ambassador El Naggary told the ESCWA Communication and Information Unit (ECIU): “it was a courtesy call, and an occasion to congratulate the Executive Secretary on his assignment as head of ESCWA.” |

Improving the Communications Infrastructure, Services and Policies in ESCWA Member States |
The development of communications and service infrastructures has become a strategic priority given the increasing awareness of the vital role played by the communications sectors in terms of promoting economic and social activities. This study presents good practices and optimal approaches aimed at meeting economic and social development in the region and its integration in the international communications community. Moreover, it reviews improvements that have occurred in that field in ESCWA member countries, and draws up conclusions and recommendations to meet the development goals. |

Economic Empowerment of Women and the Promotion of the Values of Peace, Justice and Citizenship |
ESCWA Centre for Women supported the Arab Women Organisation in organising a high level conference on “Economic Empowerment of Women and the Promotion of the Values of Peace, Justice and Citizenship.” The meeting, organised in Muscat, Oman during the period 18 – 19 December, brings in academic researchers and national women machineries to discuss Arab women economic opportunities and hindering factors to women equal access into the labour market. |
The project on "Strengthening national capacities in the ESCWA region on developing green production sectors" was designed and launched by ESCWA in 2012, during the preparatory period leading to Rio+20, to promote practical green economy approaches in the ESCWA member countries.
