The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia and the Carnegie Middle East Centre held an expert group meeting on Security Sector Transformation in Arab Transitions: Working for Change. The meeting was held at the United Nations House in Beirut, on 17 and 18 December 2012, and was attended by representatives of Governments, security services, civil society and research centres, in addition to human rights activists, researchers and academics. |

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) convened at the UN House, Beirut, during 17-19 May 2011, the twelfth session of the Committee on Transport that represents a continuation of efforts made by ESCWA to complete the development of the Integrated Transport System in the Arab Mashreq (ITSAM) and follow up the implementation of its components pursuant to ESCWA resolution 279 (XXIV) of 11 May 2006, with a view to facilitating trade and transport between the countries of the region and achieving regional integration. |

Improved Energy Efficiency and the Uses of Cleaner Fossil Fuels in Selected Sectors in Certain ESCWA Member Countries, Part I: Improved Energy Efficiency in Energy-Intensive Industries |
The industrial sector plays a vital role in the national economies of the ESCWA region and consumes some 25 per cent of total energy. This study is the first volume of a two-part study assessing the role of the industrial sector in the national economies of the region; current energy consumption trends in selected energy-intensive industries; and economically feasible options for improving energy efficiency in these industries. The study assesses energy consumption in several sectors, including the cement industry, steel industry, fertilizer manufacturing and glass manufacturing. |

5th UN Global Road Safety Week: Leadership for Safer Mobility in Cities |
Within the framework of the 5h UN Global Road Safety week 2019, a workshop was organized by ESCWA and YASA on traffic safety in the cities. The workshop was attended by Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Youssef Fenianos as well as the Director General of Oil, Ms Aurore Feghali.

National ICP Training Workshop for Lebanon |
The workshop aimed at conducting training for Lebanon’s Central Administration of Statistics on the use of the ICP toolkit for data entry and data validation. ESCWA conducted a national workshop for the Lebanese price statistics team on Wednesday 11 November 2020, hosting five staff members from the Central Administration of Statistics at the UN House. |
