The present report reviews the status of women and girls in Palestine over the period July 2012 - June 2014, outlining positive developments in and significant challenges for gender equality.

This report explains the political framework, particularly the events of 1948-1967 and 1967-1987, the First Intifada, the Oslo Years and the Second Intifada. This period led to the serious deterioration of the life of the Palestinian population and women have taken on more of the family responsibilities and burdens because of the worsening economic conditions. The document also explains the gender gaps in Palestinian society through different factors: the age and distribution of the population, the fertility and mortality rates and the types and status of Palestinian households.

The ESCWA Annual Report reviews the activities of the Commission in 2006, which were severely affected by the devastating war of aggression that was unleashed against Lebanon in that year. Despite the disruption caused by the war and its aftermath, the Commission has continued to efficiently deliver its services to member countries and was able to implement its work programme, realizing various achievements that have contributed to development efforts in the region and, in particular, reconstruction efforts in Lebanon.
