As part of the partnership between ESCWA, Arab Women Organization and UN Women, a regional training workshop on reporting to the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) was held between 30 September and 2 October 2019 in Beirut.

The three-day workshop targeted 32 participants representing foreign ministries, national women’s machineries and civil society organizations from nine Arab countries (Jordan, Iraq, Oman, Yemen, Palestine, Qatar, Lebanon, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia).

The workshop was facilitated by Ambassador Naela Gabr and Ms. Nahla Haidar, the CEDAW Committee Members, and Mr. Akram Khalifa, ESCWA’s Regional Adviser on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. It aims at enhancing the skills of the participants in the preparation of State reports to the CEDAW Committee using the latest techniques, and improving internal coordination capacities of competent national entities.

Another workshop will be organized before the end of this year in Tunisia to include other Arab countries.
