5 December 2014	Social Exclusion in the ESCWA Region	The EGM is an opportunity to discuss ESCWA's region-specific definition of social exclusion and to review the findings of its qualitative field work. Regional and international experts attentive to the problems facing excluded groups as well as to the nuances of introducing such a concept into developmental and institutional policies and analyses will come together for the two-day EGM.

9 July 2018	Executive Secretary represents UN Secretary-General at Turkish President’s inauguration	Beirut, 9 July (Communication and Information Unit)--The Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Mr. Mohamed Ali Alhakim, today represented the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres, in Ankara, Turkey, during the inauguration ceremony of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Palace. The Turkish presidential election recently took place on 24 June as part of the 2018 general election, alongside parliamentary elections on the same day.

5 December 2014	Sub Regional Consultation on Labour Intensive Work Programmes as a Tool for Extending Social Protection	In the framework of its current focus on extending social protection in Arab countries, the Social Policy Section in ESCWA's Social Development Division, in cooperation with the ILO, is organizing a workshop on labour intensive work programmes for practitioners across the region. The workshop will be held at the Ministère de l’Investissement et de la Coopération Internationale in Tunisia from 25 to 26 September 2013.
5 December 2014	Expert Group Meeting for Increasing the Effectiveness of National Machineries in Gender Mainstreaming	The EGM will be in collaboration with UNIFEM Arab Regional Office and will be attended by experts from National machineries as well as experts from the region on gender mainstreaming. Also invited to participate in the meeting are respresentatives from the Arab Women Organization (AWO), The League of Arab States (LAS), and Centre for Arab Women for Training and Research (CAWTAR)
