ESCWA, represented by its Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme Support Khawla Mattar, signed on 16 March 2017 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Moroccan Ministry of General Affairs and Governance, represented by Minister Mohamad Al-Wafa. The MoU aims to provide a framework for inter-institutional dialogue and cooperation on matters of common interest in the fields of sustainable development over the period 2017-2019.
 

The fifth issue of the Annual Review, aimed at researchers and academics, analyses the degree to which the Arab economies have integrated into the global economy and the progress made in the Arab regional integration process. It provides policymakers with a set of recommendations on how best to proceed, both in terms of globalization and regional integration. Following thorough analysis, the principal conclusion of the review is that, in 2005, Arab countries made further progress in terms of both regional integration and integration into the global economy.

The accelerating development in knowledge during the past few decades has modified the principles of economic growth with the move towards knowledge-based economy affecting all sectors of the economy. This report aims to depict the status of information societies in the ESCWA region, measure the progress made in building these societies and evaluate the current status of member countries. With those objectives, the report provides comprehensive analysis and essential information on the situation of the ESCWA region in comparison with the rest of the world.

The ESCWA Centre for Women (ECW), in partnership with the Human Rights Institute of the Beirut Bar Association, is organizing the next meeting of its Gender Discussion Series (GDS), to be held under the title: To what extent do the legal systems in Arab countries facilitate access to justice for women? The meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday 6 June 2014 at 2:00 PM, on the premises of the Beirut Bar Association located at “Beit Al-Mouhami” in Adlieh - Mathaf area.
