Iraqi Minister of Planning at ESCWA tomorrow

What:    The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) will sign with the Iraqi government, represented by Iraqi Minister of Planning Nouri Dulaimi, a Technical Cooperation (TC) framework for the period 2019-2020.
 
When:             Thursday 30 May 2019 at 10:00hrs.
 
Where:            ESCWA Headquarters, Riad el-Solh Square, Beirut, Lebanon
 
Who:

  • Mr. Nouri Sabah Al-Dulaimi, Iraqi Minister of Planning;
  • Ms. Rola Dashti, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA.

 
Why:      The TC framework aims to assist Iraq in building capacity and provide advisory services, in accordance with the mandate of ESCWA, the priorities of its programme of work and available resources over the period 2019-2020.
 
This comes in line with the efforts of ESCWA to support member States in adopting strategies aimed at achieving sustainable development, founded on social justice, equity, equality and poverty reduction; and in support of member States’ international commitments, especially implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
 
The TC framework between Iraq and ESCWA will focus on (1) environment and natural resources management; (2) technology and statistics; (3) development and social empowerment; and (4) community peace and decentralization.
