The movement of natural persons is a major concern for developing countries, where the labour force is seen as a major pillar for development. This study highlights the marked disparity in unemployment rates, income levels and production structure among Arab countries. It examines the movement of natural persons under the General Agreement on Trade in Services and in relation to international trade. |

Upon the invitation of the Beirut-based Carnegie Middle East Centre, a group of Arab thinkers discussed on 17 June 2014 the flagship report produced by ESCWA and entitled “Arab Integration: A 21st Century Development Imperative” at the Phoenicia Intercontinental Hotel, Beirut. Following an introduction by Senior Associate at the Carnegie Middle East Centre Maha Yahya, the meeting opened with the statements of United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf, and former Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora. |

Bulletin on Population and Vital Statistics in the ESCWA Region, No. 14 |
The Bulletin on Population and Vital Statistics in the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Region disseminates available data and statistics on ESCWA countries vital events (births, deaths, marriage and divorce). Data in this bulletin were compiled from national sources and a questionnaire prepared by ESCWA. The purpose of the Bulletin is to encourage countries to produce and disseminate vital statistics needed for better planning and to strengthen countries civil registration systems. |
