Regional Training Workshop on Reporting to the CEDAW Committee |
As part of the partnership between ESCWA, Arab Women Organization and UN Women, a regional training workshop on reporting to the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) was held between 30 September and 2 October 2019 in Beirut.
The three-day workshop targeted 32 participants representing foreign ministries, national women’s machineries and civil society organizations from nine Arab countries (Jordan, Iraq, Oman, Yemen, Palestine, Qatar, Lebanon, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia). |

Assessment of Renewable Energy Projects through Public-Private Partnerships: Case Studies in Rural Areas of Jordan |
The project “Enhancing and Improving Access to Energy Services through Development of PublicPrivate Renewable Energy Partnerships” seeks to build the capacity of governments and other stakeholders of PPPs for promoting renewable energy services in rural areas. Different types of PPPs will be examined evaluated in different regions/areas based on economic and social conditions. The project aims to focus on countries with special needs, taking into account experiences from different regions. |

The expert group meeting on death registration systems and mortality statistics in the Arab region was organized in support of a study under preparation by the Statistics Division of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean of the World Health Organization (WHO-EMRO). The study focuses on death registration systems and their associated mortality statistics in the Arab region. |

Climate/SDGs Debt Swap Mechanism |
ESCWA has launched a Climate/SDGs Debt Swap Initiative toward supporting debt relief and improving climate finance in member States of the Arab region that are facing high debt burdens. A Debt Swap Mechanism (DSM) has been developed in 2020 that aims to provide win-win-win solutions for debtors, creditors and donors/development partners that can utilize debt servicing payments for achieving climate-sensitive national development objectives in line with implementation of SDGs and Paris Agreement. |
