Joint workshop for capacity building in price data collection |
Given that some countries are participating in the ICP in both Western Asia and Africa regions, the regional offices at ESCWA and the African Development Bank (AFDB) conducted a joint workshop for building statistical capacity in ICP/CPI price data collection in dual participating countries. |

Global Forecasts and Predictions for the ESCWA Region: The Roles of Investment and Public Expenditure in Economic Growth, Issue No. 2 |
This study presents a quantitative analysis of the sources of economic growth in the region, focusing on the effect of the accumulation of capital and investment on economic growth. It uses an auto-regressive model to determine the contributions of investment, public expenditure, revenue and oil exports to growth of the gross domestic product. It also provides economic policy recommendations for member countries to support growth enhancement. |

Advisory Bodies and Focal Points |
The Advisory Committee The Advisory Committee was established under ESCWA resolution 175 (XV), of 18 May 1989, to bolster the work of the Commission. It is made up of heads of diplomatic missions in the host country, and a high-level representative of that country. The Committee plays a consultative role and facilitates contact between member States and the ESCWA Secretariat, and among member States themselves, on matters requiring attention between the Commission’s biennial sessions. It meets every four months at ESCWA headquarters in Beirut. |

Fourth Meeting for ETC's Board of Governors |
The fourth meeting of the Board of Governors (BOG) of the ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC) comes shortly after the composition of the new Board represented by 16 Arab countries for three years. Within the context of its work on sustainable energy the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia is organizing four sub-regional training of trainers’ (TOT) workshops on “Mainstreaming Appropriate Renewable Energy Technology in the Rural Productive Sectors of the Arab Region” The first workshop will be held in Jordan (17-18 May 2015), Morocco (25-26 May 2015), Oman (1-2 June 2015), and Sudan (8-9 June 2015). |

Task Force on Population and Housing Censuses, 6th Meeting |
The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) with support of the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) organized the sixth meeting of the Task Force on Population and Housing Censuses, Round 2010 in Beirut from 1 to 3 December 2009. The meeting aimed at discussing the Arabic translated version of the “Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses, Revision 2” (PRPHCR2), making necessary modifications, exchanging relevant successful experiences and expertise among ESCWA member countries and discussing the future plan of the Task Force. |
