ESCWA training on Democratic Governance paves way for improved participation |
Beirut, 9 November 2018 (Communication and Information Unit)--Several Arab countries suffer from unproductive economies, rising inequality, inefficient public institutions and the absence of meaningful citizen participation. ESCWA is organizing a regional workshop on Arabic Domain Names and Internet Governance on 14 November 2009 at the Savoy Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The meeting tackles important topics related to the Arabic domain names in general and the “.arab” top-level domain, which will be established in 2010, in addition to issues associated with critical Internet resources and cyber security. |

Sendai Framework Monitoring and National Disaster Loss Accounting System and Linkage of Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction for Iraq |
The workshop, organized by ESCWA in partnership with UNISDR aims to strengthen national capacities in data collection, entry and analysis on Sendai Framework Monitor and Disaster Loss Accounting System (DesInventar) in order to prepare the national report for Iraq on Disaster Risk Reduction. The Workshop was attended by 16 senior experts from 11 different institutions and ministries (Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Oil, Ministry of Construction and Housing, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Electricity, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Interior). One of the participants from the Ministry of Environment was also the focal for climate change and vulnerability assessment. This group of experts represents part of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Committee of Iraq which is mandated to cope with Disaster Risk assessment, preparedness and recovery plans. |

Water for Sustainable Development - Water for the Future We Want |
“Water for Sustainable Development - Water for the Future We Want” was the title of the keynote lecture given by ESCWA Regional Advisor on Water Ralf Klingbeil on the occasion of World Water Day 2015 in Oman. The 2015 World Water Day event in Oman was organized by Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat on 18 March and attended by participants from governmental institutions, universities, Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and the private sector. |
