ESCWA is organizing a regional workshop on Arabic Domain Names and Internet Governance on 14 November 2009 at the Savoy Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The meeting tackles important topics related to the Arabic domain names in general and the “.arab” top-level domain, which will be established in 2010, in addition to issues associated with critical Internet resources and cyber security.
This workshop takes place from 09:00 till 16h30 at the Savoy Hotel, and aims at outlining the regional roadmap for Internet governance and initiating an action plan for the establishment of Arabic domain names. It is convening right before the fourth meeting of the Internet Governance Forum, which will also be held in Sharm El Sheikh between 15 and 18 November 2009.
The workshop is co-organized by the League of Arab States (LAS) and ESCWA, and hosted by the Egyptian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), in cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Arab ICT Organization (AICTO) and the Saudi Network Information Center (SaudiNIC).
Representatives of regional and global key Internet players will participate in this event, mainly from Arab country-code top-level domain operators, domain name registries, registrars, resellers, Internet service providers as well as small and medium enterprises and telecom operators interested in the implementation of Internationalized Domain Names in the Arab region.
