A United Nations report launched in Beirut today said governments of the Middle East and North Africa region were lagging behind global averages in reducing disaster risks. The 2011 UN Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction (GAR11) was launched Wednesday in its Arabic version at the UN House in Beirut by ESCWA and the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR). UNESCWA is organizing a seminar on the Role of Foreign Aid in Development of the Arab Region on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at the UN House, Beirut. This comes as part of the Commission’s process of disseminating information and soliciting feedback on pressing developmental issues in the UNESCWA Region. It aims at providing a comprehensive analysis of the impact that development aid can have on achieving internationally agreed-upon development goals, such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), in the Arab region.

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is organizing a workshop and an expert group meeting in Dubai, on issues of trade facilitation and transport, from 9 to 11 April 2013.
