UN-ESCWA Discusses Energy Issues in Amman |
The Jordanian capital hosted three regional UN-ESCWA meetings in cooperation with the National Center for Energy Research in Amman from 18 to 21 December 2006. They were: “Seminar on Follow-Up of Activities of the Regional Mechanism on the Development of Energy Uses for Sustainable Development”, “Regional Workshop on Energy Efficiency Labeling”, and “Regional Workshop on Clean Development Mechanism: Project Document Preparation in UN-ESCWA Member Countries.”

Preparation for the Sudan Housing and Population Census |
In the framework of the ESCWA technical cooperation with member countries, and at the request of the Republic of Sudan, the regional commission held on 1 and 2 June 2016 in Khartoum a consultative workshop on the use of technology for the general Population and Housing Census 2018, and relayed the experience of Jordan in the use of technology along the phases of the census. Participants in the census were the ESCWA delegation, along with a delegation from the Jordanian Department of Statistics and the firm that carried on the census in Jordan. |

Constitutional Meeting for The Coalition of Arab-Palestinian Civil Society Organizations |
The Arab-International Forum on Rehabilitation and Development in the Occupied Palestinian Territory: Towards an Independent State (Beirut, 11-14 October 2004) launched a multilateral process to enhance Arab-Palestinian partnerships. This process aims to support the process of rehabilitation and development in the occupied Palestinian territory (OPT), and thereby assist the Palestinian people overcome the harsh realities of occupation and instability, and at the same time lay the socio-economic foundations for creating their independent state. |

ESCWA Facilitates Exchange of Environmental Knowledge between Palestine and Tunisia |
ESCWA Regional Advisor for Environment and Water Ralf Klingbeil said today that Tunisia and Palestine will benefit from the exchange of information on their national approaches to environmental management through the activities, which ESCWA has planned at the Tunisian Ministry of Environment from 22 to 26 April 2013. The information society, in which information is processed efficiently, including the production, exchange, adaptation, and use of information, is the appropriate environment for achieving sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for all citizens. However, the move towards the information society constitutes a real challenge to developing countries, particularly in view of the expanding digital divide with developed countries, thus rendering them increasingly vulnerable to a reduction of their productive and economic capacities. |
