Technical Committee, 5th Meeting |
The Fifth Meeting of the Technical Committee will be held from 6-7 April 2011 at the United Nations House in Beirut, pursuant to the decision of the Commission at its twenty fourth session (May 2006) to establish a Technical Committee comprised of Senior Officials from member counties. The Technical Committee meets regularly at the Headquarters of ESCWA and aims at enhancing interaction and close consultation between member countries and the secretariat on socioeconomic development issues of relevance to the work of ESCWA. |

ESCWA signs agreement with Tunisia on hosting upcoming ministerial session |
Beirut, 10 June 2019 (ESCWA)--United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA Rola Dashti today commended the efforts of the Republic of Tunisia and its people at the socio-economic level and the creation of job opportunities for young people. Dashti’s statement came after the signing of an agreement between the Tunisian government and ESCWA on the preparations of hosting the 31st ministerial session of ESCWA, which will be held in 2020. |

The concept of “Sustainable Development” was adopted during “The Earth Summit” in Rio, in 1992, and The UN “Commission on Sustainable Development” (CSD) was established to review progress achieved towards the implementation of the concept and the entailed “Agenda 21” adopted then. Yet since that time, limited progress was achieved. Many observers stated that the mechanisms for implementation needed reform at all levels: national, regional and international. |

UN Report: Arab Region Behind in Disaster Risk Reduction |
A United Nations report launched in Beirut today said governments of the Middle East and North Africa region were lagging behind global averages in reducing disaster risks.
