Impact of COVID-19 on Migrants and Refugees in the Arab Region |
This publication examines the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on migrants and refugees in the Arab region. It focuses on several relevant areas including health, income security, the economy and education. It also addresses return and voluntary repatriation, and trafficking in persons during the pandemic. The paper and its accompanying policy brief present a set of actionable short- and medium-term policy recommendations to guide countries’ responses to these issues.

ESCWA Participates in UNFCCC/COP 18 |
In line with ESCWA mandate to follow-up on progress of international conventions and provide support to Member Countries in implementing and meeting their commitments to international goals and agreements, the Commission participated in the 18th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 8th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, held in Doha, Qatar (COP18/CMP8) on 26 November-7 December 2012. |

Committee on Trade Policies |
The mandate of the Committee includes the following: (a) discussing priorities under the programme of work and midterm action plans of the Commission in the field of trade policies; (b) following up on progress in trade policies in member States and making recommendations in that regard; (c) monitoring developments in regional and international forums, conferences and processes with regard to trade policies, and coordinating regional efforts towards the implementation of related resolutions and recommendations emanating from such platforms; and (d) supporting cooperation between the secretariat of the Commission and specialized ministerial councils of the League of Arab States, and organizations and unions formed under its umbrella, and with other specialized regional organizations, to build capacity and harmonize policies and strategies to develop trade policies; and supporting communication efforts, partnerships and the harmonization of positions in the international arena. |
