The region’s outlook continues to be clouded by modest oil prices and geopolitical risks
Beirut, 16 January –Western Asia is projected to see a moderate growth recovery in 2020, as the region’s outlook remains subject to high downside risks, according to the United Nations World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2020, which was launched today. |

Water Cooperation between UN-ESCWA and Germany |
Represented by Executive Secretary Bader Omar Al Dafa, UN-ESCWA signed on 11 January 2008 a memorandum of understanding with the German Embassy in Lebanon, represented by Ambassador Hansjoerg Haber concerning the project "Advisory Services to UN-ESCWA and UN-ESCWA Member Countries in the Water Sector".
The signing ceremony took place at the UN House, Beirut, and was attended by UN-ESCWA Chiefs of Divisions and officials from the Embassy.

Cash Transfer and Conditional Cash Transfer Programmes in the Arab Region |

ESCWA Report Highlights Disparities in Information and Communication Technology |
ESCWA shed light in a report it launched Tuesday on the state of the Information Society in the Arab region, emphasizing the great disparities that exist among countries in the region in this sector. Entitled “Regional Profile of the Information Society in Western Asia – 2009”, the report disclosed an increase in literacy in this region, while also noting that half of all Arab women still suffer from illiteracy. |

ESCWA Executive Secretary Badr Omar AlDafa delivered a speech today at the opening of the International Arab Banking Summit –(IABS 2010) entitled “From Crisis to Financial Stability” that opened today in Istanbul , under the auspices of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. ESCWA hosts the YPP Career Support Programme for the third time |
Beirut, 26 July 2019 (ESCWA)--After its success in hosting the Young Professionals Programme (YPP) Career Support Programme in 2011 and 2012 and following a decision by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) to decentralize it starting 2019, ESCWA once again hosted it from 22 to 26 July.
