11 December 2014	UN Report Recommends a Better Leverage of ICT in Private Sector Development	Beirut, 19 October 2011 (United Nations Information Centre) – UN Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC-Beirut) held a press conference today at the UN House to launch the Information Economy Report (IER) 2011. The report, entitled “IER 2011: Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) as an Enabler for Private Sector Development,” is issued by the Geneva-based UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

11 December 2014	ESCWA Technical Committee on Trade Liberalization Meets in Beirut	Under the patronage of Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade Nicholas Nahhas, the Technical Committee on Liberalization of Foreign Trade, Economic Globalization and Financing for Development in the Countries of the ESCWA Region opened today its seventh session. Statements at the opening session were delivered by Acting Director General of the Ministry of Economy and Trade in Lebanon Fouad Fleifel, representing Nahhas, the Director of ESCWA’s Economic Development and Globalization Division Adballah Dardai and president of the session Ahmad Al Douchari of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

11 December 2014	The UN Greens the Blue	On 5 June (World Environment Day) 2007, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on all UN agencies, funds and programs to become climate neutral and 'go green'. Since then, all UN organizations have been working together to put in place systems and procedures to measure and reduce the environmental impacts of the UN family. “I would like to see our renovated Headquarters complex eventually become a globally acclaimed model of efficient use of energy and resources. Beyond New York, the initiative should include the other United Nations headquarters and offices around the globe”.
8 August 2016	Khawla Mattar of Bahrain Appointed as Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCWA	On the 2nd of August 2016, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Ms. Rima Khalaf announced the appointment of Ms. Khawla Mattar (The Kingdom of Bahrain) as Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme Support. Ms. Mattar is bringing with her a vast working experience in development and in political offices of the UN. She has also worked closely on issues of gender; equality; human rights; migrant workers; rights at work for all and children’s rights.
11 December 2014	Launch of Decade of Action for Road Safety in ESCWA	From the UN House in Beirut, and in cooperation with Lebanese actress Carmen Lebbos, ESCWA launched on 17 May the “Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.” The event was held under the auspices and in the presence of Lebanese Minister of Interior Ziad Baroud, and many diplomats and government officials from ESCWA’s member countries.
