Lebanese President Michel Aoun received on Wednesday 21 June 2017 United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim in a courtesy visit shortly after he assumed office on top of the Commission. President Aoun praised the work conducted by ESCWA for the sake of the Member States. For his part, the Executive Secretary voiced his gladness that Lebanon is hosting ESCWA and stressed that it is the only UN regional and international organisation headquartered in Lebanon.

Under the framework of its efforts to support policies, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) took part on 28 and 29 March 2017 in a workshop on Data Systems, Supporting Decision-making, and Economic Modeling, in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum.
 
The workshop delved into the key components of the project through discussion round tables involving a large number of academicians and experts in Sudan as well as representatives of the Presidency, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research.

Commenting on the aggression today to which the UN House in Beirut was exposed, UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy said, “we understand the feeling of the Lebanese people after several civilians fell due to strikes over the Qana village early this morning, which recalls the tragedy that hit this village in 1996.” She added, “We appreciate the intervention of the Lebanese authorities at the highest level to provide protection to the UN headquarters in Beirut and stress Lebanon’s need of the United Nations and UNESCWA.

"What ESCWA is, What ESCWA Does," was the main theme of a briefing presented by Nadine Daou, Researcher in ESCWA Social Development Division, and Mirane Abi Zaki and Maryam Sleiman, Public Information Assistants, to a group of students from the Frères Libanais School- Hadath, who visited ESCWA headquarters on 4 and 5 May 2015.
