Call for proposals on Promoting RE Investments in the Context of Climate Change Mitigation & SD |
UN-ESCWA is inviting applications for a call for proposals on Promoting Renewable Energy (RE) Investments in the Context of Climate Change Mitigation and Sustainable Development. All institutions, civil societies and the private sector of member countries are invited to submit their proposals by 1 March 2016, to be included in the ESCWA RE investment projects pipeline. At least 10 projects will be retained as part of a capacity building project the Commission is implementing, which aims at enhancing RE investments in member countries in the context of climate change mitigation. |

Lebanese President and Speaker Receive Executive-Secretary |
Lebanese President Michel Aoun received on Wednesday 21 June 2017 United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim in a courtesy visit shortly after he assumed office on top of the Commission. President Aoun praised the work conducted by ESCWA for the sake of the Member States. For his part, the Executive Secretary voiced his gladness that Lebanon is hosting ESCWA and stressed that it is the only UN regional and international organisation headquartered in Lebanon. |

ESCWA at Academia Lebanon 2014 |
Under the title “Partnering for Knowledge”, Academia Lebanon organized on 19-20 November 2014 the 24th International Convention on Higher Education at UNESCO palace in Beirut. An exhibition was held for schools and universities, which caught the attention of hundreds of students. This forum is the first of its kind to deal with the exchange of thoughts and methods, and the formulation of new initiatives and projects so as to integrate the regional education market in an increasingly challenging global environment. |

Commenting on the aggression today to which the UN House in Beirut was exposed, UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy said, “we understand the feeling of the Lebanese people after several civilians fell due to strikes over the Qana village early this morning, which recalls the tragedy that hit this village in 1996.” She added, “We appreciate the intervention of the Lebanese authorities at the highest level to provide protection to the UN headquarters in Beirut and stress Lebanon’s need of the United Nations and UNESCWA. |

Launching of the National Campaign for Air Pollution Reduction in Lebanon through Efficient Use in Land Transportation |
Supported by ESCWA, the Lebanese Ministry of Environment and the UN Development Program (UNDP), IPT Energy Centre (IPTEC) launched today the “National Campaign for Air Pollution Reduction in Lebanon through Efficient Use in Land Transportation” . The event was held under the patronage of Lebanese Minister of Environment Nazem Khoury at the Ministry premises. In addition to the minister, speakers included Roula Majdalani, ESCWA Director of Sustainable Development and Productivity Division (SDPD) and IPTEC President Toni Issa. |
