Expert Group Meets on Gender Mainstreaming |
On 29 and 30 March 2011, ESCWA held an Expert Group Meeting on “Mainstreaming Gender in the Plans and Programmes of the Ministries of Labour in Selected ESCWA Member Countries” at the UN House in Beirut. The two-day meeting was a follow-up to a workshop on gender mainstreaming and organizational change for participants from labour ministries and national women machineries in six member countries - Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, Palestine, Qatar, Sudan and Syria - that was organized in August 2010. |

UN-ESCWA and Alcatel-Lucent to Launch a Study on Broadband for Development |
UN-ESCWA, represented by the Chief of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Youssef Nusseir, and Alcatel-Lucent, represented by Vice-President Thierry Albrand, will hold a press conference at the Jordanian Ministry of Information and Communication Technology in Amman at 12:30 pm on Wednesday 28 February 2007. This press conference is intended to launch a joint publication entitled “Broadband for Development in the UN-ESCWA Region: Enhancing Access to ICT Services in a Global Knowledge Society”. |

CAMRE Welcomes Cooperation with ESCWA |
The Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment (CAMRE) welcomed ongoing cooperation with ESCWA during its 25th Session, held at the Headquarters of the League of Arab States (LAS) on 7 November 2013. Participating in meeting was Director of the ESCWA Sustainable Development and Productivity Division Roula Majdalani. In particular, ESCWA had cooperated with LAS in holding a workshop on the Regional Training Workshop on Capacity Development for Climate Change Negotiations for the Arab Countries in Jordan, on 22-24 October 2013. |

Continued Cooperation on Transport |
As part of UN-ESCWA’s concerted efforts in transport on the regional level, an agreement was signed between UN-ESCWA, represented by Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy, and the Yemeni Ministry of Transport, represented by Minister Omar Mohsen Al Amoudi, to prepare an economic feasibility study for establishing an international railway network in Yemen. |

Third UN Global Road Safety Week |
Under the auspices of Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities Nohad El Mashnouk, and on the occasion of the Third UN Global Road Safety Week, ESCWA convened a workshop in Beirut, which gathered political, cultural and artistic personalities. The workshop was launched with a choir of Abi Bakr Al Siddiq School students who performed traditional songs promoting road safety. Following the opening, attending personalities signed the "Child Declaration on Road Safety". |

Arab Dignitaries and Senior Officials Take Part in ESCWA 28th Ministerial Session |
On 17 September 2014, Arab ministers and senior regional and foreign officials took part today in the opening of the 28th ministerial session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), a key regional event hosted by the Tunisian government, and held under the patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Moncef Al Marzouki. In the opening session, Arab and foreign diplomats and senior officials listened to statements that echoed Arab concerns and aspirations towards a better tomorrow guided by social justice. |
