ESCWA is holding a three-day Workshop on "Investment in the Information and Communication Technology Sector," from 5 to 7 May 2009 in Cairo. The meeting is organized in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), and will be held at MCIT premises, Smart Village B1, Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, Giza, Cairo, Egypt.

UN-ESCWA (The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia), in partnership with the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF), holds an expert group meeting on “Harnessing Technology for Enhanced Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Productivity and Competitiveness” on 3 and 4 November 2007 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Mirage City in Cairo, Egypt. The expert group meeting will be held concurrently and complementarily with the ASTF “Made in the Arab World” Competition finals, scheduled to open at 9:00 AM on Saturday 3 November.

Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy stressed that not once did UNESCWA stop its work in the service of Lebanon and other member countries, even during the war. She said this during a teleconference today with the United Nations Information Service at UNESCWA which focused on following-up the media work programme at the Commission.

In the week of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against women (25 November), Arab parliamentarians participate in the second regional workshop on the “Roles of Parliamentarians in the Implementation of CEDAW”, organized by UN-ESCWA and the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women (UNDAW), on 26-28 November 2008 at the UN House, Beirut.
