Two back-to-back workshops on "Building Capacities in Local and Participatory Development" were held in Beirut from 15 to 20 February 2010, under the auspices of the Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs, Mr. Salim Sayegh, and in close collaboration with the League of Arab States, UNESCO, UNDP-Lebanon, Oxfam-GB, UNESCO, and the Arab Center for the Development of the Rule of Law and Integrity (ACRLI). |

The Committee on Women of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) was established pursuant to resolution 240 (XXII) of 17 April 2003, which was endorsed by Economic and Social Council resolution 2003/9 of 18 July 2004. It was mandated to follow up on global and regional conferences addressing women’s advancement and facilitate the participation of member States in related global discussions. It was also tasked with the coordination of regional efforts towards the implementation of its resolutions and recommendations. |

The Expert Consultation Meeting on Priority Science and Technology Domains: Establishment of the ESCWA Technology Centre was held in Amman on 6 and 7 November 2007, and organized by ESCWA in collaboration with the Royal Scientific Society, the host institution. The overall objective of the Meeting was to advance the ongoing process of designing, launching and, ultimately, establishing the ESCWA Technology Centre for Development. |

Regional Seminar on the Review and Appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing |
The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) convened in Amman on 20 and 21 November 2007 a Regional Seminar on the Review and Appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA). The main objective of the seminar was to review the progress made in implementing the 2002 MIPAA, to share experiences and successful approaches and to assist member countries and relevant regional partners in their programmes for the older people. A further objective was to review action taken in the Arab Plan of Action on Ageing to the Year 2012. |
