This study contains a wealth of information related to the field of energy and climate change, namely on the production of electrical power from renewable energy sources, including solar and wind energy, which are abundant in ESCWA member countries, as well as on geothermal and mechanical applications that do not require electrical power.

The study explores the possibilities of mitigating climate change through the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions resulting from electricity generation in member countries in the period through 2020. It also considers the possible local manufacturing of equipment for renewable energy applications used to produce electricity and the importance of regional and international cooperation in this regard. It reviews the adopted frameworks and mechanisms, and proposes measures to strengthen the role of renewable energy in climate change mitigation in member countries.
