This paper provides an overview of the levels and trends of key demographic indicators in the Arab region. It serves as a regional reference for policymakers and researchers on the patterns of various socioeconomic and demographic indicators, and their impact on development. The paper also examines the issue of ageing, which had gained great importance in light of the tenth anniversary of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing in 2012. It finally proposes general recommendations intended to advance equity and social inclusion for the elderly, improve their quality of life and create an inclusive society for people of all ages.
