The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission of Western Asia (ESCWA) conducted a study on the potential of local manufacturing of renewable energy (RE) equipment in Jordan, Lebanon and the UAE.

All three countries have adopted ambitious RE targets showing that RE is an emerging solution. The study identifies the gaps and the barriers in producing each selected technology and focuses on RE technologies for which the selected countries have strong advantages in terms of natural resources, market size potential or track record of related industries. As a result, solar PV, Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and onshore wind have been included in the scope of the study. The study also provides recommendations and action plans for each of the three countries to support and promote the development of local manufacturing of RE components along with the potential regional linkages.
