Women are severely affected by the ongoing wars, intense violence and crumbling State services that torment much of the region today. Along with children, women make up the majority of displaced persons. Many countries in the region have yet to implement Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, which was adopted in 2000, or subsequent related resolutions.
