On 14-15 April 2014, the Tunisian capital hosted a regional policy seminar organized by Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in collaboration with the Tunisian Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME), the Energy Department of the League of Arab States (ED LAS), and the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), on policy reforms to promote financing of energy efficiency (EE) investments with the aim of strengthening the capacity of national and local policymakers in the region.

The ESCWA Centre for Women (ECW), in partnership with the Human Rights Institute of the Beirut Bar Association, is organizing the next meeting of its Gender Discussion Series (GDS), to be held under the title: To what extent do the legal systems in Arab countries facilitate access to justice for women? The meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday 6 June 2014 at 2:00 PM, on the premises of the Beirut Bar Association located at “Beit Al-Mouhami” in Adlieh - Mathaf area.

“Arab Integration: A 21st Century Development Imperative” is the name of the flagship report produced by ESCWA in preparation for the upcoming Arab Economic Forum set to be held in Tunisia early next year.
To launch the report, the Carnegie Middle East Centre is organizing a panel at 9:30 AM tomorrow Tuesday, at the Pheonicia Intercontinental Hotel, Beirut. The panel, which will gather leading thinkers from the Arab region, will be opened by former Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf.

ESCWA organizes an expert group meeting tomorrow Wednesday 25 June 2014, on the issue of Women, Peace and Security. Participants will review the findings of the regional study entitled “Identification of legislative gaps for the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325 (SCR 1325) in the Arab Region” at the UN-House, Riad Solh Avenue, Beirut. The meeting concludes on 26 June 2014.
