11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	Global Trade Facilitation Conference 18-19 November 2013 UN Regional Commissions join forces for global trade facilitation and paperless trade	The Global Trade Facilitation Conference 2013, organized by the five UN Regional Commissions just concluded in Bangkok, Thailand, calling on all countries to continue their efforts to cut red tape and simplify trade procedures in order to achieve more sustainable and inclusive development. The conference was organized during the Third Asia-Pacific Trade and Investment Week held by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and is part of the ‘Joint UN Regional Commissions Approach to Trade Facilitation’.

Over one billion people - or approximately 15 percent of the world population - live with disability. In the Arab region, significant strides have been made over recent years to protect and promote the rights of persons with disabilities. Despite these efforts however, persons with disabilities in Arab countries continue to face substantial barriers in accessing health care, education and employment.
11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	ESCWA Launches Publication on Promises of Arab Spring	In the presence of civic activists, civil society organizations, academics, social researchers, local leaders and politicians from Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, Tunisia, Syria, Libya, Morocco, Egypt, and Yemen, ESCWA launched today its new publication entitled “Promises of Spring: Citizenship and Civic Engagement in Democratic Transitions”. The launching ceremony opened with a welcome note by Director of the ESCWA Social Development Division Frederico Neto, followed by a presentation on the said study by Chief of the Participatory Development Section Maha Yehya.
