11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	Ninth Session of ESCWA Committee on Energy Opens	Director of ESCWA Sustainable Development and Productivity Division Roula Majdalani today said that much can be done to increase energy efficiency in most Arab countries, which, in coming years, will suffer from the dangers of falling short of meeting the increased demand for power that will rise by 115 percent during the years 2011-2020. Majdalani was speaking at the opening of the Ninth Session of ESCWA‘s Committee on Energy at the Regency Hotel, Kuwait. The Committee concludes tomorrow Thursday, and is attended by specialized representatives of ESCWA Member States.
11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	ESCWA and ALI Launch Green Production Help Desk	ESCWA, in cooperation with the Association of Lebanese Industrialists (ALI), is holding a press conference on Thursday 27 June 2013 at 11h00 AM to launch their joint project entitled “Green Production Help Desk (GHD)”, at ALI premises in Sanayeh. Opening statements will be delivered by Nehmat Frem, Head of the Lebanese Industrialists Association, and Roula Majdalani, Director of ESCWA Sustainable Development and Productivity Division. A presentation will follow on the project and its work mechanism.

11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	Regional Commission Discusses Implications of Syrian Crisis on Jordanian and Lebanese Economies	The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is organizing an expert group meeting (EGM) on “The Implications of the Syrian Crisis on the Economies of Jordan and Lebanon” on Thursday, the 4th of July 2013 at its headquarters, Riad El Solh Square, Beirut. The meeting will be held with the participation of Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Ibrahim Saif and Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade Nicholas Nahas.
11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	ESCWA Releases 2012 Annual Report	Under the overall message of “Go Forward”, ESCWA has launched its annual report for the year 2012, in Arabic and English. The report reviews a year of achievements for the regional commission against the backdrop of continued transitions and socio-economic challenges in the Arab region. It focuses on the seven key substantive areas of the ESCWA mandate: sustainable development, social development, economic development, information and communications technology, statistics, advancement of women, and conflict mitigation and development.

Le rapport passe en revue les réalisations de la commission durant l’année 2012 qui était pourtant pleine de défis socio-économiques dans la région arabe.
11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	ESCWA and League of Arab States Usher a New Era of Cooperation	26 June 2013 saw the mutual signing at LAS headquarters in Cairo, of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the Executive Secretary of ESCWA, Ms. Rima Khalaf, and the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS), Mr. Nabil Al Arabi. The new MoU aims to develop and build on decades of cooperation between ESCWA and LAS, which has grown progressively since the signing of the original MoU between the two organizations in 1983.

11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	The Inventory of Shared Water Resources in Western Asia Launched in Stockholm	During the World Water Week held in Stockholm from 1 to 6 September 2013, ESCWA and the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) launched the Inventory of Shared Water Resources in Western Asia, the first effort led by the United Nations to comprehensively identify and assess the state of transboundary surface and groundwater resources in the Middle East.
