11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	ESCWA Launches Cyber Legislation Directives	Beirut, 4 May 2012 (ESCWA Communication and Information Unit)— During its coming 27th Ministerial Session, ESCWA will launch a series of directives on “Cyber Legislation” at 12:00 noon on Thursday, 10 May, 2012 at the U.N. House in Beirut to shed light on the results of the commission’s activities in the field of cyber laws. The importance of cyber legislation stems from its role in securing a regulatory and legal environment suitable for the flourishing of the Information and Communication technology (ICT) sector.
11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	Senior Officials Segment of ESCWA’S 27th Session Kicks Off	Beirut, 7 May 2012 (ESCWA Communication and Information Unit)— The Senior Official Segment of ESCWA’s 27th Ministerial Session opened today at the U.N. House in Beirut. Speakers at the opening were the Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCWA, Mr. Nadim Khoury, the Director of International Cooperation in the Jordanian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Ms. Zeina Touqan, representing the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which chaired the 26th Session, and the Executive Director of the Economic Policy Affairs in the Emirati Ministry of Economy, Mr. Mohamad Saleh Shalwah.
11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	Senior Officials Segment of Commission’s 27th Session Concludes, Accepts Tunisia as New Member	Beirut, 8 May 2012 (ESCWA Communication and Information Unit)— The member countries of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) unanimously accepted the Republic of Tunisia as a member of the Commission, to be brought up to the United Nations Economic and Social Council for final approval. Meanwhile, member countries also welcomed each of Libya’s and Morocco’s requests to join ESCWA. This step final approval by the ministerial Session Wednesday and reviewing in the member countries’ capitals before a final decision is made.

11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	Helsinki University Students Visit ESCWA, Get Briefed on its Objectives and Programmes	Beirut, 16 May, 2012 (ESCWA Communications and Information Unit)- A group of Political Studies students from the University of Helsinki visited ESCWA today and explored its objectives and programmes. The students were briefed by Ms. Ahed Sboul, Chief, Conference Services Section on the opportunities provided by the Regional Commission and the challenges it is facing, especially following the drastic change that has occurred in the region since January 2011.

Beirut, 5 June 2012 (ESCWA Communication and Information Unit) – The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is marking the World Environment Day (WED) 2012, which turns 40 this year. Since 1972, WED is celebrated annually on 5 June to raise awareness on prevailing environmental issues and encourage global action. The WED 2012 theme is “Green Economy: Does it include you?” WED bears a special importance this year, as it will be hosted in Brazil, only two weeks prior to Rio+20.

11 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2014	First Meeting of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group of the Arab Internet Governance Forum El Sherbiny: Such Forums Confirm the Need for Dialogue	Under the umbrella of ESCWA and the League of Arab States (LAS), the first meeting of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) of the Arab Internet Governance Forum (Arab IGF) was held on 18-19 June 2012 in Cairo, Egypt. The meeting was convened by the Arab IGF secretariat, represented by the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt, in collaboration with the Arab Administrative Development Organization (ARADO), and was sponsored by the Kuwait Information Technology Society (KITS) and CISCO Systems.
