26 شباط/فبراير 2015	Third Meeting of the Arab Internet Governance Forum Opens Tomorrow	Lebanese Minister of Telecommunications Boutros Harb, ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf, Lebanese Minister of State for Administrative Reform Nabil de Freige, and Director General of Ogero Telecom Abdulmunim Youssef tomorrow inaugurate the “Third Annual Meeting of the Arab Internet Governance Forum (AIGF-III)” at 9:30 AM at the Movenpick Hotel, Beirut. The master of ceremony in the opening session will be the media figure Mounir el Hafi.
26 شباط/فبراير 2015	Annual Meeting of the Arab Internet Governance Forum Opens	UN Undersecretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf today said that good internet governance, as good governance in general, was an important tool to achieve sustainable development goals in all of its aspects. Utilized wisely, information and communication technologies could contribute in the fight against poverty, unemployment and social exclusion. They could also create decent job opportunities for youth, women and marginalized groups in any community. The optimal use of technology should be ensured for this end and to spread knowledge and benefits.

26 شباط/فبراير 2015	Former SG Special Representative Urges the UN to Put Social Justice at the Heart of Political Debate	“Is justice a condition for durable peace?” was the question raised today by Tarik Mitri, former Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Libya, in front of the heads of more than 20 UN agencies operating in the Arab region, representatives from the League of Arab States (LAS) and various embassies who were hosted at the UN House in Beirut by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) for the 20th Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM) meeting to discuss development priority agenda items.
26 شباط/فبراير 2015	Bolster Food and Water Security in the Arab region	On 11 December 2014, ESCWA and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) launched of a four-year project to bolster food and water security in the Arab region. SIDA has donated USD 2.7 million while the contribution of ESCWA will amount to USD 0.8 million. The project generates unique national and regional data on the present and future situation of food and water security; design coordinated regional policies to enhance food and water security; and help governments respond to dwindling arable lands and increased water scarcity, while meeting growing food needs.
26 شباط/فبراير 2015	Launch of the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2015 Report From UN House in Beirut	The World Economic Situation and Prospects 2015 (WESP) Report discusses economic growth in many countries in Western Asia over the next two years and the repercussions of decreasing oil prices and ongoing conflicts. It also lays out the situation in Jordan, Lebanon and Yemen, notably concerning rising government debt which has started pressuring fiscal balances due to higher interest payments.
26 شباط/فبراير 2015	The World Economic Situation and Prospects 2015 Non-oil exporting experience weakened growth prospects	Head of the ESCWA Development and Globalization Division (EDGD) Moctar Mohamed El Hacene today said that non-oil exporting countries in the region, especially Lebanon and Jordan, may experience weakened growth prospects, partially due to the negative repercussions of armed conflicts in neighboring countries. Al Hacene was speaking in the first press conference to be held after his assignment to ESCWA, and which was organized to launch the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2015 (WESP) report.
26 شباط/فبراير 2015	Democratic Governance in Iraq on the Agenda of ESCWA	The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) will hold a workshop on 'Capacity-Building for Partnership in Democratic governance in Iraq' in partnership with the Iraqi Business Council (IBC) and in cooperation with the League of Arab States (LAS) and the Arab Gulf Fund for Development (AGFUND) from 23 to 25 January 2015, in the Grand Millennium Hotel, Amman. The opening of the workshop will be attended by Ambassador of Iraq to Jordan Jawad Hadi Abbas.
26 شباط/فبراير 2015	Cairo Hosts Arab High Level Conference on Beijing+20: Towards Justice and Equality for Women in the Arab Region	“Towards Justice and Equality for Women in the Arab Region” is the title of the Arab High Level Conference on Beijing+20, which will be held in Cairo on 2 and 3 February 2015 in Sofitel Hotel, El-Gezirah. The Conference is organized jointly by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the League of Arab States (LAS), and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). Other organizations are contributing to the funding of the event such as the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
