محطة مناخية تكون بياناتها مهيأة لكي تحدد التغيرات والأحوال المناخية. وهذا يتطلب عمليات رصد متجانسة على مدى فترة زمنية طويلة (30 عام على الأقل) بحيث تكون التغيرات البيئية التي حصلت خلال هذه الفترة نتيجة للمؤثرات الخارجية ضئيلة. وفي الحالة المثالية، يجب أن تغطي عمليات القياس فترة زمنية طويلة كافية بحيث تسمح بالكشف عن التغيرات المناخية.
