The first East African Community was founded by the Treaty for East African Cooperation in 1967 and lasted until its collapse in 1977. The EAC was established again by the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community, which was signed on 30 November 1999 and came into force on 7 July 2000. The East African Community (EAC) is the regional intergovernmental organisation of the Republics of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Republic of Uganda, with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
