This series of webinars, "Addressing the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus in the Context of Climate Change and Sustainable Development", is part of ESCWA’s regional trainings on renewable energy technologies under the framework of the Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND) and will highlight the nexus approach as a tool for achieving the sustainable development goals.  
 
The series of webinars are organized by the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, the United Nations Regional Commission of Western Asia (ESCWA), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Environmental Center for Arab Towns (ECAT), the Middle East Desalination Research Center (MEDRC) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the UAE.
 
The webinar series focuses on meeting the following objectives:

  • Build a common understanding of the WEF nexus as a key driver for climate change mitigation and sustainable development;
  • Exchange information on the most appropriate and efficient technologies in terms of WEF and the role of technology innovation and smart technologies;
  • Discuss the benefits, opportunities and challenges of adopting an integrated approach to address the WEF nexus within the context of the current institutional and policy frameworks;
  • Provide training on the policy tools and options for promoting integrated strategies, plans and policies on the WEF nexus;

Discuss opportunities of regional collaboration supporting the concrete implementation of the WEF nexus concept.
