The joint UNDP-ESCWA Project entitled "Capacity Building for the Iraqi Public Sector Management," aims to support a new form of governance through institutional development and the adoption of modern information and communication technologies. To this end, the implementing agencies seek to build the capacities of the National Centre for Consultancy and Management Development (NCCMD) in Iraq, supporting its role as a focal point for the reform and modernization of the Iraqi public sector. |

Strengthening Good Governance Practices in Conflict Afflicted Countries: Current Priorities and Future Interventions |
Good governance remains a critical ingredient for socio-economic development as well as for peacebuilding. In light of the development challenges facing Western Asia, in conflict affected countries in particular, the consecration of good governance practices is all the more pressing but continues to face a wide range of obstacles. The most serious challenges within the public sector remain the depletion of human resources and physical infrastructure as well as the desperate need to upgrade and develop outdated administrative practices. |
